Stern rollers are supplied as single or twin rollers. They are made in a range of sizes up to those intended for AHTS with the highest bollard pulls handling the heaviest deepwater moorings. Single rollers have stub axles rotating in bearing housings clamped to the vessel structure. Composite bearings are flushed with seawater in an open circuit system activated when the roller is rotating. Twin rollers rotate on a through axle clamped to the vessel structure. Composite bearings in combination with a closed loop cooling/lubricating system, utilising biodegradable lubricant, provide low rotational resistance in all operating conditions. Each of the rollers can be equipped with a measuring device, counting rotations, for estimating the length of wire rope or chain moving out or in over the roller.
